THE LAST WITNESS

SCENE (21) – EPILOGUE – SAFA ALONE

Setting:
  • Night. The abandoned khanah of Nur Qutbi Alam.
  • Dust. Broken lamps. The pond outside reflects moonlight.

SAFA enters slowly, older now.

SAFA (to the empty space)

They called it history.

As if it chose itself.

(She sits against a wall.)

I saw kings rise. I saw sons sacrificed.

I saw faith bent like metal.

I learned early that silence is rewarded.

(She wraps the blanket that Nur used to use around herself. She looks around the khanah.)

You were different, Alam.

You believed restraint was stronger than swords.

You were wrong.

I loved you for it.

(Her breath slows.)

To be a witness is to hate the story and still carry it.

(She lies down.)

Tonight, it lets me rest.

(Moonlight on the empty khanah.

She lies on Alam’s seat.

Her hands open.

She dies.)

BLACKOUT.
