SCENE (20) – THE LAST WITNESS
Setting:
- The King’s inner chamber. Lamps overturned. Curtains half-drawn.
- GANESH lies motionless.
- Servants panic. Guards shout.
- SAFA stands frozen near the doorway.
- Shadows move across the walls—unclear, fleeting.
TRIPURA and PHULJANI enter running.
TRIPURA
No—Ganesh!
PHULJANI
It has happened.
TRIPURA
How?
(No one answers.)
(A shadow slips past the far curtain.)
(Only SAFA notices.)
SAFA
(eyes narrowing)
(For a fraction of a second, JADU is visible—then gone.)
(Safa understands immediately but shows no reactions.)
So the son remembers.
And history forgets.
TRIPURA
Safa—did you see?
(A long pause. The room holds its breath.)
SAFA
No. I heard a sound. I came running.
PHULJANI
You are certain?
(Safa meets Phuljani’s eyes. They understand each other.)
SAFA
There is no witness.
(Phuljani nods—almost imperceptibly.)
(The chaos resumes around them.)
TRANSITION – TIME PASSES
Lights dim.
Voices fade.
